Eligibility - Educational Qualifications

Candidates must have obtained a degree (graduate/post-graduate) or be in the final year from a recognized university. Branch-wise qualifications are as follows:

1. Executive Branch - GS(X) / Hydro Cadre

BE / B.Tech in any discipline with minimum 60% marks.

2. Pilot

BE / B.Tech in any discipline with minimum 60% marks.

  • Candidate must have 60% aggregate marks in Class X and XII.
  • Minimum 60% marks in English in Class X or Class XII.

OR: Valid Commercial Pilot License (CPL) issued by DGCA (India) and born between 02 Jul 2002 to 01 Jul 2008.

3. Naval Air Operations Officer (Observers)

BE / B.Tech in any discipline with minimum 60% marks.

  • 60% aggregate marks in Class X and XII.
  • Minimum 60% marks in English in Class X or Class XII.

4. Air Traffic Controller (ATC)

BE / B.Tech in any discipline with minimum 60% marks.

  • 60% aggregate marks in Class X and XII.
  • Minimum 60% marks in English in Class X or Class XII.

5. Logistics

  • 5.1 - BE / B.Tech in any discipline with First Class, OR
  • 5.2 - MBA with First Class, OR
  • 5.3 - B.Sc / B.Com / B.Sc.(IT) with First Class along with PG Diploma in Finance / Logistics / Supply Chain Management / Material Management, OR

6. Naval Armament Inspectorate Cadre (NAIC)

BE / B.Tech with minimum 60% marks in the following streams:

Selection Process

The selection procedure for Indian Navy SSC Officers involves the following stages:

Shortlisting

Based on normalized marks obtained in the qualifying degree.

SSB Interview

Shortlisted candidates will be called for SSB Interview at designated SSB Centres.

Medical Examination

SSB recommended candidates undergo Medical Examination as applicable to their entry.

Merit List

Final Merit List prepared based on SSB marks and medical clearance.

Key Points about Shortlisting:

  • BE / B.Tech: Marks obtained up to 5th semester will be considered for SSB shortlisting.
  • Post-Graduate (MSc, MCA, MBA, M.Tech): Marks obtained in all semesters will be considered. For final year students, shortlisting will be based on pre-final year performance.
  • Marks will be normalized using the formula mentioned on the Join Indian Navy website.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be informed via e-mail or SMS.

Important:

  • Change of SSB Centre for interview is not permissible under any circumstances.
  • Candidates will be denied to appear for SSB if any backlog in any subject is pending at the time of document verification.

NCC 'C' Certificate - Special Relaxation

NCC 'C' Certificate holders will be given relaxation of 5% in cut-off marks towards shortlisting for SSB, subject to the following criteria:

  • Having NCC 'C' certificate of Naval / Army / Air Wing with minimum 'B' Grade.
  • Not served less than two academic years in the Senior Division, Naval/Army/Air Wing of the NCC.
  • 'C' certificate should not be dated prior to 01 Jul 2024.

The final selection will be subject to verification of the certificate by DGNCC / concerned NCC unit for its validity.

Salary & Pay - Sub Lieutenant

Initial Gross Salary of Sub Lieutenant

Rs. 1,20,000/-

(Approximately per month) + Other Applicable Allowances

  • All officers/cadets would be compulsorily members of the Naval Group Insurance Scheme (NGIS) on contribution basis.
  • The insurance cover would be applicable whilst in service and post retirement as per extant regulations.
  • Pilot / NAOO and Submarine allowance of Rs 31,250/- will be admissible post successful completion of training.

Tenure of Commission

Selected candidates will be granted Short Service Commission (SSC) initially for:

10 + 2 Years

  • Initially for 10 years.
  • Extendable by a maximum of 02 years, subject to service requirement, performance, medical eligibility, and willingness of candidates.

Training & Probation Period

Training

  • Candidates will be inducted in the rank of Sub Lieutenant subject to clearing induction medical examination at INA, Ezhimala.
  • Only unmarried candidates are eligible for training.
  • Any candidate who marries while under training will be discharged from service and shall be liable to refund full pay and allowances.

Probation Period

  • Probation period for all branches/cadres is two years.
  • Commences from the date of grant of the rank of Sub Lieutenant.
  • Terminates after two years or on completion of initial training (whichever is later).
  • Officers are liable to be discharged in case of unsatisfactory performance at any stage during probation.

Special Provisions - Merchant Navy & CPL Holders

Merchant Navy Personnel

  • Candidates having GoI, Ministry of Shipping & Transport Certificate of Competency (Foreign going) either as a Second Mate, Mate, or Master and born between 02 Jul 1997 to 01 Jan 2008 can apply for Executive Branch entry (GS).
  • Candidates having 1st Class Engineer Certificate and born between 02 Jul 1997 to 01 Jan 2008 can apply for Technical Branch entry (SSC Engineering).

Commercial Pilot License (CPL) Holders

  • Candidates having valid CPL issued by DGCA (India) and born between 02 Jul 2002 to 01 Jul 2008 can apply for Pilot entry.

Submarine Arm & RPA Specialisation - Volunteering

  • Submarine Arm: Male candidates shortlisted for GS(X) are also eligible to volunteer for the submarine arm subject to medical fitness, vacancies, and service requirements. They must indicate this option while filling the online application form.
  • Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA): Candidates selected under GS(X) are also eligible to volunteer for RPA and would be considered for appointment to RPA cadre after completion of training at INA, subject to medical fitness, vacancies, and service requirements.
  • Submarine Allowance will be admissible post successful completion of submarine training.

Medical Standards

  • Specified number of candidates who have chosen SSC (Pilot) entry will be considered for SSB / CPSS / Aviation Medical Examination. Candidates are advised to check physical/medical standards (Height, leg length, etc.) for this entry prior to selecting this option.
  • Candidates declared medically fit for CDSE Jul 27 course will be considered fit for all SSC branches of IN (except for Pilot/NAOO).
  • Candidates are advised to ascertain their eligibility for branches/cadres with respect to applicable medical standards prior to indicating their preference.
  • SSB recommended candidates are required to undergo medical examination as applicable to their entry. Change of medical hospital/centre is not permissible under any circumstances.
